Small Rivers & Streams

We are well blessed in the Yorkshire area with small rivers and streams that offer the dedicated fly-fisherman the ultimate challenge, true fishing in Lilliput. Especially testing in the summer months when these waters are often clear and the fish super sensitive to disturbance. Six or seven foot fly rods, light lines, small flies, thin tippets and a very careful approach are very much the norm.  We have a number of venues to offer which we can discuss with you before your trip but all have truly wild brown trout and some have grayling too. This type of fishing is not for everyone, but if trying to catch wild and wily fish in tricky places appeals to you why not give it a go.

SEASON: April to the end of October  (dependant on venue)

Malham TarnYorkshire Dales

Malham Tarn is one of only two “natural” lakes in the Yorkshire Dales. It covers some 150 acres and has a good stock of wild brown trout. The banks are part of a nature reserve therefore the lake can only be fished from boats and there are only four of these available. The setting of this lake is nothing short of spectacular and if you are looking for a peaceful day with amazing scenery then this is hard to beat not to mention big hard fighting wild brown trout. The only draw back is that the lake is high up and very exposed so if you do decide to fish here bring along an extra fleece!

It is a wonderful place to fish “traditional loch style”, if you have not tried this and would like to we can supply all the tackle and expertise you need to enjoy a memorable day as part of our service.

SEASON: May 1st to September 30th.
