Pennine Guide
Services welcome all
levels of fly fishers but we are not a fly-fishing school although we can and
do help with casting techniques. If you are an experienced angler but feel you
need to know more about a particular aspect of lake or river fly-fishing such
as upstream nymph, dry fly, wet fly or maybe you would like to know more about
fly patterns or entomology with regard to fly-fishing then please let us know
so that we can work the day around your individual needs. If you have no
experience of fly-fishing at all then the “taster days”
will be ideal for you.
Pennine Guide
Services can offer three main types of service
but these are not cast in stone and can be varied to meet the requirements of
individual clients.
1. FULL GUIDE SERVICE
The all-inclusive
service specifically designed for visitors to the area from other parts of the
United Kingdom or abroad. All the necessary permits and licences will be
provided as will all the equipment needed for your choice of water including
waders if required. Guides have intimate knowledge of each of the waters and
make sure you fish the best areas with the correct flies. All you need is
suitable outdoor clothing with a hat and sunglasses (to protect your eyes) plus
plenty of enthusiasm! The time you start and finish is flexible to suit you but
a normal day would usually be 9:30am until 5pm.
2. GUIDE ONLY SERVICE
This service is
designed for the travelling angler with his or her own fishing tackle and
permits but feels they would benefit from the knowledge of a dedicated local
guide for a particular water to make the most of their visit while fishing. As
with the Full Guide Service
your guide will ensure that you are fishing the best areas with advice on the
best flies to give the client the best chance to make a good catch.
3. TASTER DAYS
These are designed
for the client who has never fly-fished before but would like to see what all
the fuss is about! On Taster Days
you will experience first hand the mysteries of the ancient gentle art of
fly-fishing.
A guide will take
you for a day on to one of Yorkshires most beautiful waters. There he will
explain and demonstrate the mysteries of fly-fishing tackle, casting and watercraft.
He will talk about the aims of the fly-fisher and show you the “natural” food
of the fish and the intricate artificial flies created by him to imitate this
food to try and deceive the fish he is trying to catch.
All you will need is
suitable drab outdoor clothing; a hat and sunglasses are also recommended. We
will supply waders if required. As well as the fishing you should also pick up
other information about the wildlife that make up the complex ecosystem of
healthy rivers and lakes.
